There is something so incredibly comfy and cozy about yoga pants, right?! They are so accepting and non-judgemental. That sweet, soft, stretchy fabric just goes and expands with the flow without you even being aware that any 'expansion' is even happening 😳.
Oh, and by the way, I'm not talking about wearing yoga pants to your yoga class, I'm talking about living in your yoga pants...no yoga involved.
I was recently acquainted with my pandemic expansion when I decided I would wear something besides yoga pants and reached for my favorite pair of corduroys.
EEK!
Let's just say it was a bit of a wake up call.
I'm not dissing wearing yoga pants, I'm dissing the mindlessness that can accompany wearing yoga pants every day for the past 9+ months.
This past year has been tough and I think many of us have resorted to taking the easy path, the yoga pants path.
NO JUDGEMENT!!!
I mean gee whiz, with everything else going to hell in a handbasket, what's wrong with just slipping into something comfortable, something we know, something that doesn't restrict us or force us to address the stark reality staring us in the... umm, zipper?
But life isn't about hiding behind yoga pants, life is an invitation to actually LIVE and to live ACCOUNTABLY and MINDFULLY for self and others!
We often focus so much on what's wrong , that we miss the opportunity to see what's happening - what's truly happening in our life and the lives of those we serve!
Wearing yoga pants gives us the means to temporarily deny reality, to hide from the work of learning, being, and growing towards the highest expression of ourselves.
It's hard to be on our A-game every day, it's hard to stay motivated, heart-centered in the face of so much pain, so much adversity.
In bearing witness to the day-to-day suffering of others we find ourselves detaching from our shared humanity; life itself can become too much to bear.
So why not wear your yoga pants? They are so easy. They keep stretching, accommodating and even smoothing out our edges giving us the illusion that everything is fine.
But, at some point you need to put on a different pair of pants and then what?
"To heal ourselves and to heal healthcare, we must each do the personal work necessary to transform our everyday experience into something more heartfelt." Jones & Kassity Krich, First, Health Thyself

The personal work necessary for transformation is captured in the Trauma Informed Professional Assessment-based Certificate program. On this journey you discover all ways of knowing, all ways of healing, all ways of braving and so much more.
This personal and reflective journey invites you to reconnect with your noble purpose and your passion to become a true and authentic leader for change!
Learners are encouraged and even expected to question the status quo and challenge themselves to step up and step out to ensure patients and families feel safe, secure, and seen.
One learner shared:
"...the ability to be present is a continual process of awareness as the people and environment around us are always changing and shaking us up; it can feel hard to keep up, which is why we must constantly reaffirm and make time to connect to our authentic self and beliefs each day so we can be present for others."
